Independence Pass Avalanche Causes Delays
LAKE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- An avalanche closed the highway over Independence Pass for about 90 minutes on Thursday afternoon.
The snow slide happened between Aspen and Leadville and crossed both lanes.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed Highway 82 at 1:20 p.m. Thursday. Crews reopened Independence Pass at 3 p.m.
Crews conducted avalanche mitigation earlier this month to prevent snow slides.
Independence Pass opened for the season on May 21.
