Aurora Police Search For Suspects In Child Luring Case
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora have been investigating a report of two men trying to lure an 8-year-old girl into his car, but they don't think the incident is related to the Jessica Ridgeway case.
According to police, the girl was at a bus stop near East Louisiana Avenue and South Idalia Street when two men approached in a green SUV that "looked like a Jeep" and tried to lure the child into the vehicle. The girl ran toward a group of friends walking toward the bus stop. She reported the incident when she got to school and police were called.
"The driver, described as a black male about 40 years old wearing a green baseball hat and a black shirt, told her to get in the car," Sgt. Cassidee Carlson said in a statement.
There was a white male passenger in the SUV, according to the girl.
An area resident told CBS4 that police found a neighbor who said they've seen a green Chevy Blazer for past two weeks roaming around watching children at the bus stop, but only noticed one person inside -- a white male about 35-40 years old with brown hair. He is 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall and has been seen clean-shaven and with a beard.
Police say the luring is not connected to any other cases.
Aurora is rare in that it has a child luring law and the state does not. Police got city council to pass it a few years back to make it a crime. The difference between luring and attempted abduction is with luring there is no attempt to physically grab the child.
