Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev named NHL's Second Star of the Week
The Avalanche need one more win to match the 2013-14 team for the best start since the team moved to Colorado before the 1995-96 season. A big reason for that success so far this year has been the stellar play between the pipes by Alexandar Georgiev.
The 27-year-old goaltender was given NHL's Second Star of the Week honors on Monday, the NHL announced. The award applies to games played between Oct. 16 and Oct. 22. That included a 4-0 shutout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 19. It was Georgiev's 14th career shutout.
Alex DeBrincat of the Detroit Red Wings (first) and Sam Reinhart of the Florida Panthers were the other players named the NHL's "Three Stars."
Georgiev and the Avs are currently 5-0 after a 6-4 win over the weekend against the Carolina Hurricanes and travel to New York to face the Islanders on Tuesday night. After that it's road games against Pittsburgh and Buffalo.
The 1985-86 Quebec Nordiques started 7-0-0, which is tops in franchise history.
