Several Cold Springs Firefighters Hospitalized In I-25 Crash
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Five firefighters who were working on the Cold Springs Fire were hurt in a car crash on Thursday afternoon while they were headed to another Colorado wildfire.
The crash involving two firefighter pickup trucks, a semi and a box truck happened on Interstate 25 near Fort Collins. In a news release about the crash the U.S. Forest Service wrote that "the five firefighters only sustained minor injuries and are in good spirits." They were all released from the hospital later in the day.
The firefighters were part of a crew which was released from the battle against the Cold Springs Fire near Nederland in Boulder County. More than 550 firefighters have been involved in the firefight there. The fire, which started last weekend and burned 8 homes, was fully contained Thursday night.
The firefighters were headed to the Hayden Pass Fire near Salida.
The semi involved in the crash overturned or approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel it was carrying spilled, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash caused an extensive backup on the interstate.
No names of any of the firefighters injured have been released.
