2nd Ski Train To Winter Park Added, Then Quickly Sells Out

DENVER (AP) - A second ski train trip to Winter Park is sold out.

Winter Park Resort and Amtrak announced Tuesday that they were adding a March 15 trip to celebrate the resort's 75th anniversary after tickets for the first trip sold out in about 10 hours. This time, the 450-plus tickets were gone in nearly four hours.

Those who didn't get tickets are invited to help send off the train from Denver's Union Station or welcome passengers to Winter Park.

The seven-car Amtrak train will deposit skiers steps from the lifts, just as a private train did from 1940, when the resort opened, until 2009. The train stopped running because of high insurance and other costs.

Amtrak and Winter Park say they'll keep the strong response in mind for next season.
