By Andrea Flores

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Two people were found dead inside a car pulled from Bear Creek.

The discovery was made about 8 a.m. Wednesday off Highway 74 near Kittredge when Evergreen Fire Rescue crews responded and pulled the 2015 Volkswagen from the water.

"The car did go off the side of the road, hit a tree, and rolled over, upside down into the creek," said Evergreen Fire Rescue Spokesperson Stacee Martin. "Where the car was in the creek is probably three to four feet deep, so the tire was the only thing you could see."

Highway 74 was initially closed Wednesday morning in both directions between Evergreen and Morrison. One lane of traffic was getting through that area as troopers alternated eastbound and westbound traffic around the investigation scene.

It is unclear the time the crash occurred but officers at the scene told CBS4 that ice had formed around the car, indicating that the crash happened overnight.

Neighbors say at least half a dozen cars have crashed along the same stretch of highway between Evergreen and Morrison, with the most recent wreck just a few months ago.

Now, Evergreen resident want to remind drivers of the danger on mountain roads.

"They're slick," said Kate Russell. "A lot of the time, you can't see the ice on there, sometimes the conditions are worse than you might think they are, so just to go slow."
