2 Jeffco High Schools Closed After Teachers Call In Sick
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - There's no school for Standley Lake High School or Conifer High School on Friday.
Many teachers at both schools called in sick overnight, so school officials decided to cancel classes.
This follows debate at Thursday night's JeffCo School Board meeting over two controversial issues, including the creation of a review board to look at how American history is taught and changes to how teachers are compensated.
It's not clear those issues are connected to Friday's actions, but the history curriculum idea from the conservative side of the school board was met with many objections during the meeting.
Students at Standley Lake High School were planning to stage a protest at the school Friday morning.
When contacted, Jeffco Schools Superintendent Dan McMinimee said so far they don't have an official explanation for why the teachers called in sick.
Stay tuned to CBS4 for the latest updates on Friday's school controversy.
