2 Fort Carson Soldiers Accused Of Raping High School Student

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4)- Two Fort Carson soldiers have been accused of raping a high school student.

The attack allegedly happened in October 2014 after a party in the victim's home.

The 17-year-old victim told police she was feeling sick after she had been drinking and went upstairs. The soldiers, Spc. Noel Acevedo-Mercado, 20, and Pvt. 1st Class John Donathan, 19, allegedly followed her and took turns assaulting her.

The victim reported the assault to police the next day but could not remember the soldiers' names.

Authorities say they got a break in the case after one of the party-goers recorded a phone conversation with Acevedo-Mercado, during which the soldier allegedly expressed regret over the sexual assault. They are facing sexual assault charges.

Army records show both men enlisted in the Army in 2013 and are stationed at Fort Carson. Neither soldier has deployed to war.
