½ Marathon Relay Offers Shorter Distances, Teamwork

DENVER (CBS4) The Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon hosts a 2-person ½-marathon relay allowing 2 runners to split the 13.1 mile course. Kelley Griego and Andrea Terrones collected medals at the end of the relay last year.

"So just kind of fun," Griego said referring to her medal.

"Yeah, to add to the collection," Terrones added.

"And remember the day when you were there and you got it ... you were like, 'Yea, I did it!'," Griego explained.

Like any traditional relay, there is a baton which one runner passes to the next.

"The baton is a drumstick, which is pretty awesome," Terrones said referencing the drumstick she still has.

The perfect baton for a Rock 'n' Roll event. Griego and Terrones carried it every step of the race.

"Half the time I was like playing the drums ... lots of drumming," Griego laughed and imitated air-drumming.

From the relay last year, Griego is taking on the full marathon this year.

"I'm very nervous ... very, very nervous," she told CBS4.

But Terrones will be at the finish line, handing out jackets and cheering on her former relay partner.
