The history of Juneteenth; the movement to make it an official holiday

June 19 is Juneteenth, a day for the nation to commemorate the end to slavery in the U.S. It was a long journey to get Juneteenth observed as a local, state, and federal holiday. In Chicago, the movement started in 2019, as activists and community organizers came together.
