Woman shot, critically wounded in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood
After a violent morning in Lincoln Park with two reported overnight shootings, one in which Chicago police say a 39-year-old woman was left in critical condition.
There was a line out the door of Soloway Coffee this morning, but many customers didn't even notice the trail of dried blood along the front and side of the building.
Police radio says they got calls of shots fired along Lincoln where there was a street party with music blasting from cars around 3 a.m. CPD said the woman heard shots, felt pain, and realized she was shot around 4 a.m.
Alderman Timmy Knudsen (43rd) says she transported herself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition after she was shot multiple times.
Neighbors said they woke up early, saw police investigating, and the area of Belden from the alley to the intersection was taped off.
"Really awful to this woman who was shot. I mean it's kind of a nightmare," said Katie Petrozzo.
"It's like all these people hanging out right at this intersection until 4 a.m. like every Friday, Saturday night," said Andrew Maguire
"It's very scary because I am up early with my almost 2-year-old walking around here all the time. So to hear that a woman was shot too, I am like two blocks that way," said Emily Lee.
While investigating this incident, CPD also learned that a shot was fired during a mugging, also in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
CPD said that a 25-year-old man was near the lakefront at Fullerton when five people approached him that he didn't know, and they took his personal belongings by force. After this, one of the suspects fired a shot. No one was hurt.
According to Chicago police data, there have been seven shootings, plus these two incidents, in the Lincoln Park and Lakeview areas this year. There were 12 in total last year.
