'Voluptuous Diva' Pageant Celebrates Plus-Sized Women
(CBS) -- The sash says it all: voluptuous diva.
For these 12 contestants getting ready to compete, bigger is bold and beautiful.
CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports.
Contestant Denise Walton says her participation was a no-brainer.
She always wanted to wear a crown, but her size got in the way.
"When I saw Miss America or Miss Universe or Miss Indiana or Miss Illinois they didn't look like me," she says. "Everyone can't be a size 4."
Now, in their 30s, body shaming takes a back seat. Curves are celebrated.
"I want the world to embrace being different," contestant Christina Houser says. "Curvey is beautiful."
