Up And Down
Through the first five weeks of the season the White Sox have been consistently inconsistent. It's as if they take one step forward and then two steps back. But the only thing that matters is wins and losses and following Tuesday's 7-2 defeat to Kansas City the Sox are now 5 games under 500 and 7 games behind the Minnesota Twins.
Gavin Floyd allowed 6 runs and 13 hits in just 6 plus innings and now finds his ERA at 6.89. That's obviously not good enough but it's on par with most of the Sox starting staff. Only John Danks has carried his load and this from a staff that was supposed to be among the best in baseball.
The hitting hasn't been that good either witness no starter over 300 and the situational hitting has been awful. The Sox do lead the majors in stolen bases but that's little consolation if the wins dont follow.
This was a team that was supposed to challenge for the divisional crown. The players in the clubhouse say they are still confident that will happen but with each passing loss you have to wonder if they are capable of making up ground or playing better ball.
The Sox still have 5 more games left on this home stand and then hit the road for 7 more divisional games. If they don't right the ship soon they will potentially fall too far behind and then Kenny Williams might look to make major changes.
