Two Charged With Robbing 86-Year-Old Man

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men have been charged with the robbery and beating of an 86-year-old man in the lobby of his apartment building last spring.

David Chambers, 49, turned himself in to police after seeing himself on surveillance footage shown on television. Freddie Hopson, 45, was arrested by police.

The robbery occurred April 30 in the lobby of a building in the 600 block of East 69th Street. The elderly victim was robbed and beaten, police said.

Chambers, of the 6900 block of South Yale, was charged with one count of robbery of a victim who is handicapped or over 60 years old, and two outstanding traffic warrants.

Hopson, of the 800 block of West 52nd Street, was charged with one count of robbery of a victim who is handicapped or over 60.

The victim had no trouble describing the suspects to CBS 2's Mai Martinez.

"They are dogs, you know.  They are, they just the worst that society got to offer," said the victim, who is not being identified.

And yet he said he forgives the two and is grateful to be alive.
