Thousands Attend Beverly Breast Cancer Walk

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Thousands of people turned out on the South Side on Sunday for a breast cancer walk.

Leading the walk in Beverly, from its starting point in Ridge Park was cancer survivor Carol Moriarty, one of the co-founders of the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk.

"It started 12 years ago with 25 of us standing on this hill, walking out on a rainy day to raise money for breast cancer awareness."

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel attended the walk in Beverly.

"This is a community coming together to work on breast cancer and the research. And every year it has grown, to now they have... 12,000 to 14,000 people participating."

Organizers were hoping to raise $500,000 to benefit the breast health center at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
