Teen Killed In West Suburban Shooting

AURORA, Ill. (STMW) - Police had not made any arrests Tuesday in the murder of a teen who was shot while standing in a friend's driveway in west suburban Aurora Monday night.

Julius Garcia-Velzquez, 19, was shot at 10:55 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Calhoun Street, the Kane County sheriff's office said. Two other teens were also injured in the shooting, but both survived, police said.

According to police, when deputies arrived at Calhoun Street, Garcia-Velzquez's body was found lying in a driveway. The two other teens, an 18-year-old and 16-year-old Aurora resident, were wounded. They were both taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. The 18-year-old was treated and released, the hospital said. A condition report was on the 16 year old was not available.

Police were releasing few details about the murder. A motive was not clear and no one was in custody Tuesday, said Kane County Lt. Pat Gengler.

Family of Garcia-Velzquez could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Gengler said that Garcia-Velzquez also spelled his name as Garcia-Velazquez. In October 2009, he was charged with felony aggravated battery and mob action, after a car was rammed by a car Velzquez-Garcia was in, the Kane County state's attorney's office said. Garcia-Velzquez pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a weapon and was sentenced to 30 months probation.
