South Side Neighborhood Earns Historic Places Honor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A South Side neighborhood's has earned a distinction.
Auburn Gresham has been named as the 10th Bungalow Historic District to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
That puts it in the company of South Shore, West Chatham and Wrightwood Boulevard.
The National Park Service granted the status to Auburn Gresham after a year-long process.
That process involved research and documentation of every home in the neighborhood.
Historic Chicago Bungalow Association officials say the designation means properties are eligible for an eight-year property tax freeze if they make renovations equal to 25 percent of the home's market value.
