CHICAGO (CBS) -- An police standoff in East Garfield Park came to an end Friday afternoon, more than six hours after a gunman fired shots at police and fled into a nearby building, but no arrests have been made.

Police said, around 9:45 a.m., a gunman fired shots at police near Fulton Boulevard and Kedzie Avenue. No officers were wounded, but several bullets did hit a CPD squad car.

The suspect fled the scene and ran into a building on the 3200 block of West Fulton Boulevard.

Police blocked off several streets and called in a SWAT team and K-9 unit to assist in the search for the gunman.

The scene is close to a busy CTA Green Line station. Also nearby is George Westinghouse College Prep High School. At last check, the school was on alert because of the manhunt, but there was no indication of a lockdown.

The standoff ended around 4 p.m. as officers cleared the scene. Police said no one was in custody.
