Runner Who Died At Corporate Challenge Run Identified

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 43-year-old runner from Wilmette collapsed and died while running a popular downtown road race on Thursday.

Cao Bing, 43, was participating in the Corporate Challenge, a 3.5 mile race, when he collapsed in the 100 block of North Columbus Drive at 7:35 p.m.

"We are aware of the fatality of a race participant and express our sincere condolences to their family, friends and coworkers," said Chase spokeswoman Christine Holevas.

The race, which attracts thousands of runners each year, started at 7 p.m. and Bing collapsed around 7:30 p.m. and had apparently suffered cardiac arrest, officials said.

He was taken by a private ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The medical examiner says he died of hypertension and heart disease.
