Republican Gubernatorial Candidates Make Final Push For Nomination

(CBS) – Republicans hoping to be the candidate to unseat Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn made their final push Monday to be the GOP nominee, on the eve of the primary election.

All of them, that is, except for Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford. The scandal-dogged hopeful all but abandoned his campaign and issued a written statement when asked for a final argument to sway voters.

CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports.

The final stop of businessman Bruce Rauner's 15-hour campaign day was in Hickory Hills, where 400 supporters were waiting for him at an 11th-hour "get-out-the-vote" rally.

State Sen. Kirk Dillard finished close to home, in DuPage County, following a two-day fly around with GOP hero and former Gov. Jim Edgar.

Meanwhile, Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, who lost a close one to Quinn four years ago, greeted commuters and retailers at the Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago.
