Indiana man charged with attempted murder after ramming police car with stolen Bud Light truck during chase

A man has been charged with attempted murder after officials said he rammed a stolen beer truck into a sheriff's deputy's patrol vehicle during a chase last week in southern Indiana.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputies spotted a Bud Light truck that had been stolen out of Evansville, sheriff's officials said.

When deputies tried to pull the semi-trailer truck over, the driver fled, leading them on a chase into neighboring Posey County.

During the chase, a deputy got out of his patrol vehicle to try to deploy stop sticks in the truck's path, but the driver rammed the deputy's vehicle.

The deputy was able to get out of the way of the truck and was not hurt.

The truck ended up in a nearby field, but the driver refused to get out, so deputies used pepperball rounds to force him out.

The driver, 41-year-old Randall Baker, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. He has been charged with attempted murder, auto theft, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, reckless operation of a tractor trailer, and operating while intoxicated.

A judge ordered Baker held on $10 million bond on Wednesday. He is due back in court on April 15.
