3 Killed, 20 Wounded In Chicago Weekend Shootings

(STMW) -- Three men were killed and at least 20 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening, according to Chicago Police.

The latest homicide happened early Saturday in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Ricardo Montes, 22, was on a sidewalk in the 3200 block of West Addison about 3:30 a.m. when someone opened fire from a passing SUV, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Montes, who lived in the 3700 block of North Albany, was shot in the back and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he later died, authorities said.

Friday night, a 24-year-old man was gunned down in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

William Smith was standing outside in the 3800 block of West Flournoy shortly after 8 p.m. when someone walked up and shot him in the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Smith was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died less than two hours later, authorities said. He lived in the 900 block of North Springfield.

The weekend's first fatal shooting happened about 5:45 p.m. Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 20-year-0ld man was shot several times while sitting in a vehicle in the 800 block of North Latrobe Avenue, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died. The medical examiner's office withheld his name Saturday night pending notification of his family.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Sunday morning in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 6:40 a.m. in the 3500 block of West Lexington found the 25-year-old unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

About two hours earlier, a 28-year-old man was shot in the face on the Near West Side. He was in a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Randolph with three other people playing with a gun, when the gun accidentally discharged, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Late Saturday, a man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. The 19-year-old was standing on the street in the 4800 block of South Bishop about 11:30 p.m. when four unknown males walked up, one of whom was armed with a gun, and shots were fired, police said. The man was shot in the back and the hand and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

At least 17 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since 5 p.m. Friday.
