2 Dead, 22 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) --Two people were killed and at least 22 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since late Friday afternoon.

Saturday afternoon, a 26-year-old man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a shooting in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Eric D. Henry Jr. and the 24-year-old woman were sitting in a vehicle in the 900 block of West 85th Street at 3:47 p.m. when someone walked up to the vehicle and fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Henry, who lived in the 300 block of Luella Avenue in Calumet City, was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene less than an hour later, authorities said.

The woman suffered gunshot wounds to the jaw and leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said.

About 9:45 p.m. Friday in the Armour Square neighborhood, 30-year-old Shari Graham was sitting in a cab in the 3800 block of South Princeton when shots were fired from an unknown location, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Graham, of the 7700 block of South Paulina, was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:31 p.m., authorities said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about 2:52 p.m. Sunday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 6700 block of South Claremont Avenue. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Earlier Sunday, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

A 30-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in the 9500 block of South Lafayette at 4 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. The man was shot in the right shoulder and the driver took him to Saint Bernard Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 2:20 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood. He was walking on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South East End when another male walked up and fired shots, police said. The teenager suffered gunshot wounds to the back of the head and back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the boy is a documented gang member.

A man was shot about an hour earlier in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The 39-year-old was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of South Springfield about 1:35 a.m. when another male got in the back seat, pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the right hip and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

At 12:55 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was shot early Sunday in the Montclare neighborhood on the Northwest Side. She was standing in the sidewalk in the 2800 block of North Oak Park when she heard shots and felt pain, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to Community First Medical Center where her condition stabilized.

At least 16 other people have been injured in shootings across the city since Friday evening.
