Oney: Jenks' Comments Were 'Disrespectful' And 'Unloyal'

When Bobby Jenks signed with the Boston Red Sox most thought that his days of filling Chicago headlines was over. However, after his interview with Scott Merkin, of MLB.com, Oney Guillen took issue with a few of Jenks' comments about his father, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, and the White Sox Organization.

Oney called Jenks a "yellow beard-dipping idiot," among other insults in more than a dozen tweets on Oney's Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Some of the comments Oney made via Twitter revolved around personal family issue that Jenks was dealing with, as well as a conversation Jenks had with Ozzie in his managers office.

Oney admitted that his initial response to Jenks' comments got him upset and that he should have taken a step back before voicing his opinions on Twitter. But despite that, Oney still feels that Jenks' comments were out of line.

"I felt that was very disrespectful and very unloyal of him to do that to a team that really really stood behind this guy, more than [anyone in the media] will know and more than any fans will know," Oney said of Jenks' comments. "And it was just a shame the way he did that.

"Because this team, front office and everyone has really stood behind Bobby through a lot, a lot of stuff and they tried to treat him as best they could."

After receiving some criticism for taking personal shots at Jenks, Oney addressed the situation on Wednesday's Boers and Bernstein show.

"I wish I wouldn't have said that but I did, I stand behind what I said," Oney said when asked about the personal comments about Jenks and his family.

White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams weighed in on the controversy Thursday morning. He told the Chicago Tribune that Oney's tweets are an issue I trust Ozzie to manage as there are obvious peripheral issues that are in direct conflict to what we believe and could directly compromise the integrity of clubhouse privacy."
