Chicago police officer's gun fired during arrest attempt in North Lawndale

An officer's weapon fired during an arrest attempt in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood early Tuesday morning. 

Chicago police said officers were trying to arrest a man for possession of a stolen car in the 1600 block of South Drake Avenue when the man tried to disarm the officer. Police said one of the officers' weapons discharged, but no one was hit by gunfire. 

Police said the officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries in fair condition. 

The suspect was taken into custody and treated at Mt. Sinai Hospital for minor injuries. 

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
