Northwestern Unveils New Basketball Court Design
(CBS) Northwestern's new basketball court won't be completely purple, but it will be purple inside the three-point arcs.
The Wildcats unveiled its new basketball court design Tuesday, which was chosen by fans who voted on four different designs on Facebook. One of the designs featured a mostly purple court that would have put Welsh-Ryan Arena in the conversation with Boise State's all-blue football field and Eastern Washington's all-red football field.
Instead, the winning design only features purple inside the three-point arc and outside the free throw lane. The court still features the Ncat logo at midcourt, but the new Big Ten logos are uniquely placed at the top of the free throw line, instead of just inside the free throw line.
Another unique feature of the court is that it will be stained, not painted. The wood grain will be visible, even where the court is purple.
Work began on redesigning the court Monday and is expected to last three weeks.
