Morton Salt Closing North Side Warehouse
(CBS) -- Morton Salt will be closing its longtime warehouse on Elston Avenue near the Kennedy Expressway in October 2016, the company announced Tuesday.
The packaging and storage warehouse has been used by the company since the 1920s and 23 employees currently work at the facility.
"The analysis of our Elston facility showed that it would be more efficient to serve customers from other sites in our network," said Jim Vincent, vice president of operations for Morton Salt, in a press release.
The company says it plans to maintain an office on the site.
In December of last year, a wall collapse at the facility led to several cars at the Acura dealership next door becoming buried in salt.
