MLB Amateur Draft Day 2: White Sox Take Clemson LHP Zack Erwin In Round 4
(CBS) With their fourth-round pick and at No. 112 overall in the MLB amateur draft on Tuesday, the White Sox selected Clemson left-hander Zack Erwin.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Erwin, 21, was 7-4 with a 3.04 ERA as a junior this past season. He had 92 strikeouts in 106 1 /3 innings, appearing 17 times with 16 starts after primarily being a reliever in his first two years of college.
The third through 10th rounds of the draft are being held Tuesday, while rounds 11-40 will be conducted Wednesday.
Below is a look at who the White Sox have drafted. They forfeited their second- and third-round picks because of the offseason signings of closer David Robertson and outfielder Melky Cabrera.
Round 1 (8): Carson Fulmer, RHP, Vanderbilt
Round 4 (112): Zack Erwin, LHP, Clemson
Round 5 (142): Jordan Stephens, RHP, Rice
-- The Owls' No. 1 starter, Stephens had Tommy John surgery in spring 2014 and slowly eased his way into the 2015 season, when he went 6-5 with a 3.17 ERA and 17 appearances, including 11 starts. He started the season in the bullpen and struck out 75 batters in 59 2/3 innings of work.
Round 6 (172): Corey Zangari, 1B, Carl Albert HS (Okla.)
-- The 18-year-old Zangari is 6-foot-4, 240 pounds and has committed to play at Oklahoma State.
Round 7 (202): Blake Hickman, RHP, Iowa
-- The 6-foot-5 Hickman went 9-2 with a 2.99 ERA in 16 appearances, all starts, for the Hawkeyes in his junior season. Hickman also struck out 52 and walked 42 in 84 1/3 innings. He entered Iowa as a position player and pitcher before transitioning only to the mound in 2014.
Round 8 (232): Casey Schroeder, C, Coastal Carolina
Round 9 (262): Ryan Hinchley, LHP, Illinois-Chicago
Round 10 (292): Jackson Glines, OF, Michigan
