JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) -- A man was critically injured early Sunday morning in a crash in Joliet.

At 2:56 a.m., Joliet police were called to Chicago and Benton streets for the crash. Police said a Chevrolet Aveo being driven by a 34-year-old Joliet man and a Saturn Aurora with an unidentified driver were both headed south on Chicago Street when the Saturn rear-ended the Chevrolet.

The Chevy rolled over near the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Chevy suffered minor injuries and declined to go to the hospital, but his passenger—a 43-year-old Joliet man—had to be extricated by the Joliet Fire Department and was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in critical, but stable condition.

The injured passenger was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

The driver of the Saturn bailed from the car and ran, and had not been found late Sunday.

Police believe the people involved in the crash may have been in an earlier conflict at Los Gavenos Bar, at 1101 N. Hickory St. in Joliet, but this matter remains under investigation.

Anyone with information or video of the crash should call the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at 815-724-3193.
