Man charged in 3 sexual attacks reported in Avondale within 1 hour

A Monday traffic stop led to an arrest in three sexual attacks reported on Avondale sidewalks within an hour Friday night, Chicago police said.

Zayer Picado Sevilla was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated attempted criminal assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

All three attacks were reported between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of North Springfield Avenue, the 3900 block of West Cornelia Avenue and the 3300 block of North Avers Avenue.

Chicago police said a man approached each victim from behind, wrapped his arms around them and then grabbed their breasts and groin area over their clothes before fleeing the area.

Investigators linked a red Honda to the three attack sites and used camera footage to capture its license plate, police said.

Officers stopped a car matching that description on Monday and arrested Sevilla, who was driving with an open container of alcohol and without a valid driver's license, police said.

Investigators then identified him as the man in the three attacks, and police said he "acknowledged making physical contact" with the victims.

Chicago police had warned Avondale residents about the attacks before the arrest and did not release a photo of the suspect at the time, CBS Chicago previously reported.
