Man Arrested For Attack, Robbery Of Man Shoveling Snow In Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. (STMW) - A 33-year-old Chicago man has been charged with allegedly attacking and robbing an Evanston man as he shoveled snow the day after Christmas.

On Dec. 26 about 2:15 p.m., the man was shoveling snow on the 1500 block of Church Street in the near north suburb when two men approached him, demanded his money, then cut his face with an unknown object, according to an Evanston police report.

The man was forced into a cream-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser, robbed of his cell phone and money, police said.

A couple days later, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said, Evanston police officers on patrol observed the cream-colored PT Cruiser, being driven by a man who they were familiar with and who they knew to be driving with a suspended license. They made a traffic stop on the car, and noticed the odor of cannabis coming from the car, Guenther said.

The driver, Mark Antwan Clark, 33, was taken into custody on the cannabis and driving under a suspended license offenses, and further investigation on the car revealed that it was the car involved in the attack on the shoveler. Clark was subsequently charged with aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated battery in connection to the attack on the shoveler, Guenther said.

Clark, of Chicago, is being held without bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office inmate search.

He is scheduled to appear at the Skokie courthouse for a preliminary hearing on the misdemeanor cannabis and suspended license charges, on Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Room 105 at the Skokie courthouse at 9 a.m. on Jan. 31 for the felony charges, Guenther said.
