Man, 67, Charged With Sexually Assaulting Nephew's Girlfriend

ST. CHARLES (CBS) -- A 67-year-old west suburban man who was staying with his nephew has been charged with the sexual assault of the nephew's girlfriend.

Gary R. Kluber had been temporarily staying with his nephew at a home in the 100 block of South 10th Avenue in St. Charles.

On the afternoon of June 2, the victim, a 35-year-old Aurora woman, was visiting her boyfriend of 10 years, a release from St. Charles police said.

Kluber was alone with her in the basement when he began making unwanted sexual advances, police said. The woman told him to stop numerous times, but he disregarded her requests and forced himself on her.

The next day, the victim went to the St. Charles Police Department with her family to report the incident.

Kluber was taken into custody without incident about 2:30 p.m. Thursday and charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse, police said.

At a hearing Friday morning, bond was set at $250,000, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.

Police say that Kluber's criminal history includes previous sex crimes, including criminal sexual abuse in 1987 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse with a weapon in 1998. He was required to register as a Sex Offender as a result of those convictions, but is no longer required to do so.

He was also charged with being a sex offender being in a school zone offense in 2010, according to police, who said all of the past offenses occurred in Aurora.
