Levine: White Sox Pitchers Dealing With Minor Injuries

By Bruce Levine--

GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS) -- The White Sox were dealing with a few minor injury issues Sunday morning. First up, right-handed reliever Jake Petricka was hit by a lined shot on the upper right arm area Saturday during a game against the Cub game in Mesa. Petricka came out of the game for precautionary reasons.

"I almost got the glove up there," he said of the play. "Comebackers are a part of (the job). I am good to go, just blocked a shot like hockey. If I could of let it go, (second baseman Brett) Lawrie would have had it easily."

Right-handed reliever Zach Putnam also had a mishap before stretching Friday and suffered a hamstring injury.

"It's nothing to worry about, nothing serious," Putnam said. "This point of the spring, we are being cautious and making sure it's nothing to start me on the (DL) is the main goal. I was just getting ready, had a little aggressive stretch and felt something. It's nothing serious and I am not worried about it."

Both Putnam and Petricka are fighting to maintain spots in the White Sox bullpen. Neither pitcher is expected to miss any extensive time, although manager Robin Ventura said Saturday that Putnam will be re-evaluated Sunday.
