CHICAGO (CBS) — Scattered showers and storms popped up around the CBS 2 viewing area through the evening Monday.

A severe thunderstorm warning was called for La Salle County until 8:45 p.m.

It will be mostly cloudy and dry overnight, with lows in the mid-50s. A strong system moving in from Canada will bring better storm chances on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms could slow you down a bit for the evening commute, but no severe weather is expected at this time. Tuesday's highs will be in the low 70s.

Behind this system, cooler temperatures filter in for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs only reaching the 60s and lows in the 40s.

Rain and storm chances start to build again by late this weekend.

Tonight: Scattered showers & storms early, then mostly cloudy overnight. Low 56.

Tuesday: Numerous afternoon & evening t-storms. High 72.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy and cool. High 67.
