Immigration Activists: Obama Has Failed At Reform

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Members of the Latino community, upset over a federal program called Secure Communities, or S-Comm, rallied in front of President Barack Obama's re-election headquarters Tuesday afternoon.

As WBBM Newsradio's Mary Frances Bragiel reports, the rally in front of the Prudential Building is one of many across the country for National Day of Action.

"He has power, and he has backed out, and cared more about himself getting reelected than actually stopping deportations," said Jose Torres.

He was joined by more than three dozen others who are accusing President Obama of backing away from his promise of immigration reform, and instead expanding the use of federal immigration agents

"The fact that he's deported more folks than his predecessor – that has nothing to do with Congress, said an Organizer with the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities. "That is strictly an executive decision."

The organizer says more than 24-thousand signatures were gathered and turned in to the re-election campaign with the hope that the program would be dissolved.
