Hall Fires Back At Bennett For Comments On Meriweather

(WSCR) Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall apparently heard what Bears tight end Martellus Bennett said about his teammate Brandon Meriweather.

Speaking on The Boers and Bernstein Show on Monday, Bennett made his feelings known about Meriweather, after the safety was flagged twice for hitting a defenseless receiver in Sunday's game. Bennett called Meriweather a "scumbag" and said he wanted to "punch him in the face."

"Martellus, I don't know him personally, but he had a chance to say whatever he wanted to during the game, after the game - the kid didn't open his mouth," Hall said Wednesday. "(I have) no respect for a guy who wants to take a shot after the fact. If you want to take a shot, take a shot right there. No respect for a guy like that.

"At the end of the day, nobody is out there trying to purposely hurt somebody else."

Meriweather, a repeat offender, has since been suspended for two games by the NFL.

Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall also had strong thoughts on Meriweather's play after the game.

"You know, I understand," Marshall said. "I get it. I was one of those guys. I played defense growing up. I was a headhunter. On the offensive side I even play that way, but with the rules in place, you have to respect it. Guys like that just don't understand. Those are the guys that are in trouble as far as (they) really don't have anything to do after football because they think it's all about football. Guys like that… it's tough."

Hall took exception to Marshall's comments, too.

"Brandon Marshall and Brandon Meriweather grew up together," he said. "They have a relationship beyond football. I'm pretty sure B-Marsh, if he had to think about what he said, he probably wouldn't have sad it that way."
