Fund-Raiser For Marine Badly Beaten Outside McDonald's Restaurant
(CBS) --- Over $20,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe page for a U.S. Marine brutally beaten outside of a McDonald's in Washington, D.C.
The incident happened on Feb. 12.
According to media reports, bronze star recipient Christopher Marquez, who served in the Marine Corps from 2003-2011, told police he was assaulted while eating at McDonald's.
As of midday on Monday, $20,800 has been raised on the page.
According to the GoFundMe page, Marquez was dining at a McDonald's in northwest D.C. when a group of black teenagers came up to him and allegedly began harassing him about the Black Lives matter movement. Marquez ignored them, which prompted calls and shouts that he was a racist.
As he left the restaurant, video surveillance tape shows he was struck in the face by one of the suspects and was knocked unconscious. Marquez said the group took cash and credit cards.
