Four Men Shot In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four men were wounded in a Back of the Yards neighborhood shooting Sunday afternoon on the South Side.

The shooting happened about 1:40 p.m. near South Ashland Avenue and West Garfield Boulevard, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.

Four men were wounded and apparently ran to different locations after being shot, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

A man in his 30s was shot in the head, but was able to talk to responding paramedics, Langford said.

Three other men, who all appeared to be in their early 20s, were wounded, Langford said. One man was shot in both legs, one man was shot in one leg and the third was shot in the arm, police and fire officials said.

All four men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Langford said. The man with the gunshot wound to the head appears to have suffered the most serious injury, while the other four men's wounds are non-life-threatening.

CTA buses serving Ashland Avenue and Garfield Boulevard were rerouted Sunday afternoon because of the police investigation.

Area South detectives are investigating.
