Falling ice ruptures gas main in Elgin, Illinois
A gas main ruptured when a piece of ice fell off a roof in the northwest Chicago suburb of Elgin Wednesday afternoon.
The Elgin Fire Department said the ice fell from the roof of a building at 770 Tollgate Rd. just north of Interstate 90.
The ice punctured the gas supply for the building.
A small area around the building was evacuated, the fire department said. No schools were dismissed.
