Excruciating Loss
In the course of a long baseball season teams are obviously going to suffer losses. Some of those losses might be termed "bad losses" but then there are the excruciating losses and the Sox had one of those on Sunday.
The southsiders rallied from a deficit to take a 7-5 advantage going into the 9th. Enter Bobby Jenks who was shaky in his last outing. Unfortunately this time he was two levels below shaky as he allowed hits to all four hitters he faced with Fred Lewis connecting for a three run homer, his first on the season.
Afterwards Ozzie Guillen said he would consider a shake up of the bullpen possibly sitting Jenks for a game or two and elevating someone else to the closer's role. Matt Thornton is the obvious choice as he increasingly is becoming unhittable. Guillen could also go to J.J. Putz or even Sergio Santos who also has been lights out.
Sunday's loss was hard to swallow for a lot of people including GM Kenny Williams who was moving at a rapid pace off the elevator leading to the clubhouse. Jerry Reinsdorf also tried to laugh it off but this just wasn't that kind of game. The Sox are eight full games behind division leading Minnesota who they will be playing on Tuesday and Wednesday. The only good news is that they wont be playing them in the dump known as the Metro Dome . The Twins now play at Target Field an outdoor facility.
