Emanuel Tells New Cops Their Work Needs More Support From Legislators, Parents

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Emanuel spoke at a graduation ceremony at Navy Pier for more than 120 new Chicago Police officers today.

He told the new officers and their families that their work needs support from legislators.

Emanuel: New Cops Need More Support

"We can't continue to allow those committing gun crimes in our city to have a criminal justice system like a revolving door where they are back out on the street quicker than you can get back out on the street yourself. It is time that the gun laws reflect your hard work," said Emanuel.

And the Mayor said that effective policing starts with good parenting.

"We will be as good a city and as strong a city as our parents are involved in their kids' lives," said Emanuel.
