Emanuel Talks About Adding Cops

CHICAGO (WBBM) - Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel is talking about ways to put more police officers on the streets.

The former White House Chief of Staff and Congressman suggests he would rather use surplus money from Tax Increment Financing development funds to hire more cops than to redeploy existing manpower, shifting officers away from lower crime areas to more troubled neighborhoods.

Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Emanuel made the comments on Monday while touring a factory he helped keep open, and he also addressed the ongoing challenge to his residency status. Where he lives, says Emanuel, is a topic the voters don't care about.

To run for mayor, or to be mayor, a person has to live in Chicago.

Still, he makes an extensive defense. He note he was raised in Chicago, as were his children. He maintains he is a resident with deep roots and a house in Chicago, albeit he one rents out.

Complaints filed against Emanuel says the fact that he moved his family to Washington, D,C, and rented out his house means he's not a legal resident anymore.
