CHICAGO (STMW) -- An 84-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV Friday morning in north suburban Niles.

Richard S. Stern was walking north in a crosswalk in the 8900 block of Golf Road in Niles when a Dodge Durango, headed west on Golf, hit him in the center lane, according to a statement from Niles police.

Stern, who lived in Niles, was dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Durango, a 56-year-old Evanston man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. No charges or citations had been filed as of Friday afternoon.
