DePaul Defeats Wisconsin-Milwaukee 61-47

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Tony Freeland scored 14 points and Cleveland Melvin added 11 as DePaul defeated Milwaukee 61- 47 on Tuesday night.

DePaul (4-6) trailed by as many as nine in the first half, but came back to take the lead for good on a 10-0 run.

Trailing 23-19 late in the first half, Mike Stovall had a jumper for DePaul and made a pair of free throws to tie the game at 23. Melvin's basket gave DePaul a 25-23 lead, its first of the game, and his jumper capped the run to give the Blue Demons a 29-23 lead. They led 29-25 at halftime.

Anthony Hill and Ja'Rob McCallum led the Panthers (5-7) with 10 points each. Milwaukee committed 20 turnovers.

The Blue Demons extended their lead midway through the second half by outscoring the Panthers 9-0 during a 3:50 span. Melvin had a three-point play and Krys Faber's basket gave DePaul a 46-34 lead with 8:37 left.

Stovall scored all nine of his points in the first half. Hill led the Panthers with eight points.

The teams had met six times previously, but Tuesday's game was the first in the series since 1972.
