(CBS) The Cubs didn't tender contracts to left-handed reliever Wesley Wright and catcher John Baker on Tuesday evening, and the two will become free agents.
The 29-year-old Wright was 0-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 58 appearances in 2014. The 33-year-old Baker hit .192 with 15 RBIs in 68 games.
Given that he performed effectively and that the Cubs still need lefty relief, it's possible that Wright could re-sign with Chicago, though not likely. Baker is almost certainly out of the picture after he brought nothing to the table offensively.
The Cubs did tender contracts to starters Jake Arrieta and Travis Wood; relievers Felix Doubront and Pedro Strop; catcher Welington Castillo; infielder Luis Valbuena; and outfielders Chris Coghlan and Justin Ruggiano. They are free to negotiate contracts and sign now. If not, the sides will go to arbitration in February.
The Cubs' 40-man roster is now at 37.
