CTA's Wilson Red Line Station Makeover Unveiled

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Wilson CTA Red Line station is getting a makeover.

The mayor's office released the designs, which show glass and steel canopies to protect riders from the elements while waiting for trains.

The $200 million reconstruction project also includes track and signal work.

It's expected to be completed in 2015.

The Wilson Reconstruction project is part of CTA's Red Ahead program, a $1 billion comprehensive initiative to maintain, modernize and expand the Red Line – Chicago's most-traveled rail line, the city said in an news release.

The new Wilson station will replace the badly deteriorated station that was built in 1923.

It will result in a completely rebuilt transfer station between the Red and Purple lines.
