Red Line Service Resumes After Fire At Cermak
CHICAGO (CBS) -- CTA Red Line trains were running again Thursday afternoon after a fire in a power box at the Cermak/Chinatown station halted trains during rush hour.
The fire was reported at 3:47 p.m. in a power box just south of the Cermak/Chinatown stop, according to CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.
Officials shut down power to the Red Line tracks between 13th and 27th Streets, while the CTA officials and the Chicago Fire Department responded to the fire.
Shuttle buses were provided to make all stops between the 35th Street and Grand Red Line stations while the power was out to the tracks.
Power was restored by about 4:30 p.m. and trains were running again, although trains were running 26 minutes late, according to Hosinski.
The shuttle bus remains in place until 5 p.m., Hosinski said.
