4 People Injured, Among Them Children, In Crash In Calumet Heights

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four people were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Calumet Heights – and there were children among the accident victims.

At 4:15 p.m., a minivan with four people inside was headed south on Constance Avenue at when its driver tried to turn left onto 87th Street. The driver failed to yield to a purple Dodge Challenger, which slammed into it, police said.

Images from Chopper 2 showed the two wrecked cars at the scene – with the minivan flipped partially onto the hood of the Challenger.

The driver of the Challenger ran off on foot after hitting the minivan, police said.

The four people in the minivan were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. Their ages and genders were not specified.
