CHICAGO (CBS) -- A suburban police sergeant was due in court Thursday afternoon to answer charges he shot his own son.
Raymond Leuser III, 48, has been an Indian Head Park police officer for 20 years, and even served as interim chief for about a year before Chief Robert Cervenka was hired, according to the department.
Leuser was arrested early Tuesday, after a domestic-related shooting at his home in the Clearing neighborhood in Chicago, according to Chicago and Indian Head Park police. Leuser was off duty at the time.
Leuser's 22-year-old son was shot in the leg, arm, and stomach. He was in serious condition Thursday morning at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Police said Leuser has been charged with felony counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Indian Head Park police said they are cooperating with Chicago police to determine exactly what happened.
Leuser was due to appear for a bond hearing Thursday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
