8 Wounded In Thursday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least eight people were wounded in city shootings Thursday on the South and West sides.
The most recent shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.
A 19-year-old man was arguing with a male about 10:20 p.m. on the sidewalk in the 7800 block of South Ridgeland when the other person pulled out a gun, fired shots and ran away, according to Chicago Police. The man suffered gunshot wounds to the right hand and right ankle and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
A 20-year-old was shot about 25 minutes earlier in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side.
He was standing on a front porch in the 9200 block of South Ellis at 9:55 p.m. when someone in a dark colored car fired shots, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
Just 15 minutes earlier, two people were injured in an Austin neighborhood shooting on the West Side.
About 9:40 p.m., a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were walking towards a parking lot in the 5500 block of West Corcoran Place when they heard shots and realized that they'd been hit, police said.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm and a graze wound to the back, was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said. The man was shot in the abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both of their conditions were stabilized.
A 23-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting Thursday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. He walking in the 5300 block of South Morgan about 4:15 p.m. when a light-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire police said. He was shot in the ankle and later showed up at St. Bernard Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
About the same time, a man was shot in a vehicle that crashed into a house in the South Side Burnside neighborhood.
The 23-year-old was in a vehicle traveling in the 9300 block of South Woodlawn when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. The vehicle then crashed into a house at 94th and Woodlawn. He later showed up at Advocate Trinity Hospital with gunshot wounds to the back, shoulder and neck, and was listed in good condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Two people were injured in the day's first shooting in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
A 17-year-old boy and 21-year-old man were standing outside about 3:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Iowa when they heard gunfire and realized they'd been shot, police said. The teenager was shot in the left shoulder and ear, and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The man suffered a graze wound to the left shoulder and was treated at the scene.
A police source said the teen is a documented gang member, and the pair were not cooperating with investigators.
